PH Impersonate – User Guide

Overview

PH Impersonate is a Joomla! component that allows administrators to instantly log in as any frontend user.

It is designed to help with:

  1. Debugging user‑specific issues
  2. Testing access levels and permissions
  3. Providing customer support
  4. Verifying what users see on the site

With one click, you can switch into a user’s account and experience the frontend exactly as they do.

1. What PH Impersonate Does

PH Impersonate enables administrators to:

  1. Browse the frontend as any user
  2. Validate menus, modules, and content visibility
  3. Troubleshoot user complaints by viewing their exact interface
  4. Confirm ACL behavior without needing user passwords

No additional configuration is required after installation.

2. How to Use PH Impersonate

Using the component follows the standard Joomla! workflow.

Step‑by‑Step

  1. Log in to the Joomla! Administrator backend.
  2. Navigate to Components → PH Impersonate.
  3. You will see the familiar Joomla! Users List View, including:
  4. Search tools
  5. Filters
  6. Pagination
  7. Find the user you want to impersonate.
  8. Click the Impersonate button next to their name.

You will immediately be logged in as that user on the frontend.

3. User Interface

PH Impersonate uses Joomla’s native Users interface, so administrators will already be familiar with:

  1. The list layout
  2. Filtering options
  3. Search tools
  4. User details

There is no learning curve — everything works exactly like the standard Users view.
